This software displays the periodic table of the elements. This is the
second modification that I have made to this software. I've added
almost everything that I could think of that would be useful in such a
reference program. My learning Microsoft Windows will soon be diverted
to another endeavor. Check your favorite BBS for more goodies sometime
soon!
USAGE
If you are not planning to modify the source code, the only file that
you need is the ELEMENT3.EXE file. Add this task to any convenient
Program Manager group and click on it as any ordinary Windows
application. (If you are a masochist, you can always run it from File
Manager or even MS-DOS Executive. Other invocation methodologies will
suggest themselves to the truly devious infidel.)
Adjust the size of the window with the mouse until a clear display is
obtained. The software starts out in an "almost maximized"
display state. (This is to allow the omnipresent Windows Clock on the
bottom icon line to display.) The information in each box is clipped
if there is not sufficient room to display it. Either put up with
clipped information or buy a higher-resolution monitor.
Place the mouse cursor on the element in which you wish to examine.
The atomic number, name, chemical symbol, and atomic weight are
displayed at the top center of the screen between Hydrogen and Helium.
If the text between Hydrogen and Helium is red, click the left mouse
button. The currently displayed element will "freeze". It
will then display in blue. If the text between Hydrogen and Helium is
blue, click the left mouse button. The currently displayed element
will "unfreeze". It will display in red.
To display another element, move the mouse cursor to that element.
Click the left mouse button once if the current element is
"frozen".
To place the atomic number, name, chemical symbol, and atomic number
on the clipboard, use "Edit", "Copy" sequence on
the menu bar. The "Ctrl-Ins" keyboard sequence also will
place the data on the clipboard.
A quick reference to these instructions is available by using
"Help", "Screen" on the menu bar. The
"F1" key also will display the quick reference.
There are about seven ways that I can think of to exit:
Double-click the system menu with the mouse.
Hit the "ALT-F4" key sequence.
Pull down the system menu and use the "Close" option.
Use the "File", "Exit" menu sequence with the
mouse.
Hit the "ALT-F", "X" key sequence.
Hit the "ALT-X" key sequence.
Hit the "Cntrl-Alt-Delete" key sequence (not recommended).
DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY
I disclaim all responsibility for any problems encountered with this
software.
THIS SOFTWARE IS USED AT THE RISK OF THE USER.
(Which is what Microsoft is saying in their paragraphs that nobody
ever reads.)
RIGHT TO COPY
This software may be freely copied and distributed in any method that
does not violate any applicable Federal or State laws and regulations.
(Load one down, pass it around, 63 hexadecimal bottles of beer on the
wall.)
HAVE A GOOD DAY!
