Roses of Life

I've dreamed many dreams that never came true.

I've seen them vanish at dawn.

But I've realized enough of my dreams,

Thank God, To make me want to dream on.

I've prayed many prayers, when no answers came,

Though I waited patient and long,

But answers came to enough of my prayers

To make me keep praying on.

I've trusted many a friend that failed .

And left me to weep alone,

But I've found enough of my friends true blue,

To make me keep trusting on.

I've sown many seeds that fell by the way.
  For the birds to feed upon,

But I have held enough golden sheaves in my hands,

To make me keep sowing on.

I've drained the cup of disappointment and pain.

And gone many days without song,

But I've sipped enough nectar from the roses of life

To make me want to live on.



You Learn

  After a while you learn the subtle difference between

  holding a hand - and chaining a soul.

  And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning,

  and company doesn't always mean security.

  And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts

and presents aren't promises.

  And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up

  and your eyes ahead. with the grace of a woman

not the grief of a child.

  And you learn to build all your roads on today

  because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans

  and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.



  After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much

  So you plant your own garden & decorate your own soul

  instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

  And you learn that you really can endure -

that you really are strong that you really do have worth.

  And you learn...

  and you learn...

  with every good-bye... you learn.
